Un Deux Trois

Positioned within the newly opened Hudson’s Block along Nick Gilbert Way, the central thoroughfare between the two Hudson’s buildings, Un Deux Trois serves as one of the first public touch points in the district.

In collaboration with Detroit's Cafe Sous Terre, we helped shape the name and identity for this new café concept. Drawing from the operators’ French heritage and Detroit’s own early French roots, the name Un Deux Trois plays on linguistic overlap between “trois” and the historic pronunciation of “Detroit” as de-twa. This dual reference creates a meaningful, intentional connection between the brand and its city context.

The visual system, including color palette and typography, references the legacy of the original Hudson’s Department Store, including a subtle reference to its early in-house credit card. These considerations anchor the café identity to the site’s cultural history while signaling its role in the block’s next chapter.
