Creative direction and brand identity for the private grand opening of the Hudson’s building—marking the first event held in the newly completed development and a defining moment for downtown Detroit. The project centered on honoring the legacy of the original J.L. Hudson Department Store—once the largest in the country—while presenting a vision for the future of the new Hudson’s site as a modern anchor for the city.
Supper developed the full creative system for the event, including naming and individual identities for each space, refined color palettes, and historically informed design treatments that nodded to the past while looking ahead. From a speakeasy lounge called The Fitting Room to Bowtie Avenue, a streetscape of curated displays, each room was given its own distinct tone, palette, and atmosphere—tied together by a shared graphic language and sense of occasion. The identity extended across invitations, event signage, on-site collateral, and a dedicated event website, ensuring a seamless and elevated guest experience from start to finish.
The result was a thoughtful and layered celebration—one that reintroduced a historic name into Detroit’s cultural landscape through design that was rooted in place, rich with narrative, and built to carry meaning forward.
