Originally a Detroit dive-bar 1960s and 1970s, Saksey’s has been brought back to life by the late-founders’ son and grandson in an underground speakeasy just off of Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.
For the bar’s re-introduction, we partnered with their founders on creating an identity that honors its past while crafting a modern visual narrative for its revival.
Considering Saksey’s already-established visual heritage, we began the identity development process by uncovering relics - matchboxes, newspaper clippings, imagery, etc. - that ultimately informed an evolution of its original identity.
After Saksey’s evolved identity was established, we were tasked with strategizing and creating assets for its public unveiling, as well as designing key collateral that ensured authenticity to its original story.
